So the interwebs are buzzing hard this week about former buzzband-turned mainstreamers, The Arcade Fires, and their newly leaked 3rd LP Suburbs. Haven’t placed a “Wake Up” on the joint yet, have you? Are ya’ll ‘dropping everything’ to ‘get danked’ and play this CD this week? Is anyone going to buy a real copy? They are playing at Ryman Auditorium for $300-400 a ticket this Fall, is that cause I didn’t buy the last albums? Did the Fiery Arcade ‘jump the shark’ when their song got put in Where The Wild Things Are/Superbowl Ads? What will a buzzband be like when it grows up? It’s buzz-father, mother or some third-party buzz-influence? Did ya’ll see Arcade Fire’s show at ACL in ’07/some other relevant pre-popularity performance? Has their brand completely departed with popularity, the purity of that moment never to be reclaimed again? Do you only really like “Wake Up” but play along because it seems like everyone ‘hearts’ The Arcade Fires?
Below is the title and opening track “Suburbs”. Speaking personally, the song had me hooked after 2.5 seconds of piano/acoustic strumming. -mw
