A Terrible Blog for Terrible People

The Walkmen are four heady albums in and one of the best live bands making rounds. In an internet-world obsessed with finding the newest and loudest acts, that consistency shouldn’t be depreciated. Lisbon is coming out in September and based off the four tracks streaming it’s going to be another stripe on the belt for the band. Apparently they went on a few vacays to Portugal (thus the name) recording this. It rained, had chill architecture, and they seemed to really dig it.

“Blue Eyes As Your Blood” pops off as a slow building, driving track featuring a horse-gallop simulation before opening up with gentle strings taken over by traditional Walkmen noise. Lyrics allude to their time on the Iberian Peninsula: “Black is the color of your eyes, Spanish is the language of your tongue.”

“Juveniles”, strangely, evokes nostalgic emotion in a Hundred Miles Off, faux-Latin-rock vibe.

Of the four, “Angela Surf City” could be slipped in most easily on an earlier Walkmen album. The chorus explodes with their vintage overwhelming sound: Hamilton Leithauser’s belting pipes leading a barrage of guitars.

“Stranded” (below in shitty vid form, because the mp3 was ‘large’) has horns of concert hall. This song is simply beautiful at points, with the horns setting the background for deserted, lonely description.

I’m excited about this one ya’ll. After the jump is tracklisting and album cover. -mw
