A Terrible Blog for Terrible People

Have to claim a late pass on NYC low-fi, alt-folk group Woods, but their twenty-ten release At Echo Lake has finally been getting some spins at WKMW this month. The album is fuzzy, warm distortion layered with precious lyrics/harmonies, great for summer. Standing out front is “Time Fading Lines” [below]. The song shows how Woods draw both from folk-rock stars of last week’s playlists [NY, Byrds] and more recentĀ  legends [the guitar running on the way out is quite Pavement-y]. “TFL” is effectively whole as a song—they even slipped in nonabrasive banjo and sitar bits on you—that it doesn’t have parts I anticipate; it just sort of starts and then it’s over. The careless lines in between are faded, but cherished. -mw
